A handsome Afghan, which Fanny knitted a lifetime ago, has long graced the bed in the guest room at the Barbour family home in Seacliff, San Francisco. But nobody has been using the guest room lately, and this afternoon Fanny has brought the Afghan down to the library, and has summoned Claudia over to look at it.
