Paul Barbour sits at his desk in the studio at the top of the family home. There is a fog over San Francisco tonight, and a log is burning in his fireplace. Paul picks up several pages of a letter from his desk, and he is checking the order of them, when his father knocks at the door and enters. Paul is also waiting for Jack to arrive, so that they can all discuss the dissolving of Teddy and Elwood's marriage.
