The evening has fallen gently on the sedate neighborhood in Seacliff, San Francisco, as Father Barbour steps out of the back door of the family home, there is the lulling sound of the Pacific leisurely washing against the sea wall. The traffic sounds are distant and subdued. Next door at Jack's house, six little girls have settled in their beds, and there too it is quiet. Father Barbour is about to turn back into his own house, when he sees the porch light come on at Jacks, and Betty step out.
