Joan has told Paul that she no longer wishes to live in her sorority house at the university, and wants to get an apartment at Berkeley and live by herself. But she hasn't disclosed this plan to her mother yet. In fact, she didn't even go home after her talk with Paul last night, and went back to Berkeley.
