After Teddy's phone call from Letterman hospital a couple of moments ago, Fanny Barbour went up to the third floor to Teddy's old room. She turned down the bed and stood for a few minutes listening to the rain, looking out to the Golden Gate Bridge, and remembering the years when Teddy began her life with the Barbours as Paul's adopted daughter. Teddy was 8 then, and it was long ago.
