It's long after midnight as Paul Barbour stops on the back steps and digs deep to reach for his keys. Briefly, he watches the triangular flashing lights of an airplane, headed out across the Pacific in the star-filled April sky, and then goes quietly through the sleeping house to his own room in the eaves, where he finds a surprise. Father Barbour, in his pajamas and slippers is sound asleep in the chair beside the fire!
