Hazel Barbour-Murray, wearing a pullover sweater, plus a cardigan and an ascot, is using the phone in the den in her new home - the vast, cold, Macgregor house, thirteen doors up from the Barbour family home in Seacliff, San Francisco. She is ringing to enquire again on the whereabouts of Mr Duckworth's private plane, which her husband was supposed to be on, and which was due to arrive from Twin Falls, Idaho over thirty-six hours ago!
