Mr William Martin Herbert 'Pinky' Murray, one-time millionaire (less taxes), who now is lucky to have cab fare, drops off the bus on Seacliff Drive at 5:38 on a wintry afternoon. He turns up his collar, looks cautiously in all directions, and then starts furtively for home, keeping as much as possible to the shadows. At last, he breaks into a dead run, skids to a stop on the porch and so ducks into the safety of the family home.
