There’s little doubt that one of the major motives, if not the major motive of crime, is greed. For instance, Norman Williams was a fairly prosperous farmer in a western state at the turn of the century but Williams deep in his heart wanted far more than he had and he didn’t particularly care how he attained it. His neighbors and the good people of the town nearby thought of Williams as another decent citizen.
