Preoccupation with the human soul is as old as Egypt, and probably older. Before men had devised a system of writing to express their thoughts and feelings, they may well have thought and felt that each one of them possessed a 'something' quite extraneous to his body - even as we do now - and that is why this story is called body and soul.
