Matt is seriously injured and alone on the plain with the murdering prisoner named Cannon that he and Chester were escorting in. Chester went back to Dodge to get help for Dillon. Cannon managed to get Dillon’s gun from him and was planning to kill Dillon and escape when Indian Blue Horse turns up and saves Matt Dillon and prevents the prisoner from escaping. However Blue Horse is also on the run from the cavalry a fugitive from the reservation and Marshal Matt Dillon as a man of the law is challenged by a moral dilemma whether to let Blue Horse go free or to send him back to the reservation.
