We're going to meet a private eye, in the course of a night's work, that happened over thirty years ago. Around that time, Raymond Chandler speaking of the fictional private eye, observed "he's a lonely man, and his pride is that you will treat him as a proud man, or be very sorry you ever saw him. He talks with rude wit, a lively sense of the grotesque, and a contempt for pettiness." Well, here comes Abner Colebridge - he's no Philip Marlowe believe me! Just a minor brother in the fraternity of tough guys, back in the Marlowe era. A private eye of long ago, who is certainly going to need his 'sense of the grotesque' before the night is out...
