As Sergeant Preston approached the trading post in the town of Selkirk, White Eagle who had come with him from the north, looked at him sadly, as if dreading the words he knew were coming. He had been away with Sergeant Preston for the past two weeks, and was considered to be one of the best guides in the north. Preston regarded him highly, which meant that he was equally highly regarded with his tribe, but as his services weren't needed right now, he was headed back to them.
