Eldon Bottle is a widower and had been living alone for the last eight years. He was perfectly happy, he had his job in the city as a junior bookkeeper and at home he had his beautiful garden to tend and occupy him and he knew he would be happy to spend his time here when he retired in a year. Then one day on his way to work sweet Ethel Magwitch came into his life like an express train off the rails and before he knew it they were married. That’s when everything changed and he came to view her like a beetle in his garden that must be extinguished.
