The case began in the consulting room of Dr Reynard Townley of the Townley Sanitarium, where a very lovely young woman, Diana Lawrence is talking with the good doctor. Diana is the fiancée of Willard Garth, who is an in-patient of the sanitarium. Dr Townley has poisoned Willard against Diana convincing him that she only wants him for the fortune of his family.
