On his way back to Dodge Marshal Matt Dillon comes across a young girl runaway named Trudy Trent. She tells him she is on her way to Dodge to get away from her father. Matt tells her she is too young to be leaving home and takes her back home against her wishes. Trudy asks him to stay for the night so that he can see the reason she wants to get away from her vile pa.
