The Yukon snow was in perfect condition for the biggest race‎ of the Klondike area. Indians, Eskimos, French Canadians, men from Alaska, men from the States, began moving into Dawson three weeks before the dog sled race that was to decide the championship. There were rich prizes for the driver and owner of the winning dog team. Prizes for the man who built the sled, and for the one who trained the dogs that pulled it. And there was glory for the town who provided the winner. On the street, and in the stores and cafes, the big race was the subject of all conversations...
