It's two o'clock in the morning when Doctor Christian and his secretary Judy are returning from a late emergency case at the new hospital. The folks of the little town of Riversend are all sound asleep, but not everyone is sleeping soundly. Dr Christian and Judy hear gunshots and see someone racing from the local jewelers shop. They recognize Teddy Gallagher but when they shout him he appears not to have heard them. Upon entering the smashed up jewelers they discover the night watchman has been hurt.
