Today's Destination Freedom tells the story of Matthew Henson, the first man to reach the North Pole. "I remember the cold wind cut through my clothes but I was warm inside. I stood behind the dogs and sled and gripped my whip. The ice stretched out like a white desert ahead of me. Commander Peery stood by me and said 'Look ahead Matt, don't look back on the old years. Make this the beginning!'. I remember the snow was like fine dust, gagging and choking me so I couldn't speak. I swung the whip high above the dogs, and the dogs shot ahead. Ahead to the North Pole".
