When gold was discovered in the Western United States thousands of men hurried to the new territory. Most of them were honest and worked hard at their claims but criminals were drawn to the gold fields as well and the honest prospector found it hard to protect their property. It was in the gold country that the masked rider of the plains did some of his greatest work in the cause of justice and in time he brought law and order to the lawless frontier.
