Lum's efforts to straighten out Abner's misunderstanding with Elizabeth, only served to make things worse. His phone call to tell Elizabeth that Abner was not going to go on the fishing trip, was received by Sister Simpson, who misinterpreted it to mean that Abner had only told his wife that he was going fishing to cover up some suspicious plans that he'd formulated. As we look in on the little community today, we find Lum working on some greeting cards back in the feed room, whilst Abner is in the store telling his troubles to Grandpappy Spears.
