Our play today is in and around a great American university in the southern part of the US. The college sits aloft on a hill, its observatory, library, science buildings, museums, dormitories and church spires, shining in the first rays of the morning sun. This, like a hundred others, is our temple of learning. A mile away, in a little field below the hill is a Negro cabin, a cabin like thousands of other Negro cabins and dwelling shacks throughout the land, and this is the sad story of the poor Negro family who live in the cabin, and the daily indignities they must endure.
