This is the moving story of an undecorated hero - the country doctor. The impoverished and widowed Doc Abbott arrives in a midwestern town with his young son not long after losing his own wife in childbirth. He becomes the adoptive father to another newborn little girl soon after his arrival, after she is born to a patient he can't save.
