Penny's mother, Grace, has gone to New York to see her ailing son, Pat, who for the last several months has been in the city searching for his wife, Suzanne, who mysteriously disappeared. This morning Penny has received a letter from her mother, reassuring them that Pat is very ill, but that he's going to be alright, and that she's going to stay with him for a while.
