Sheriff Bart Sanders and Deputy Greg Martin had ridden to Ten Strike Junction to pickup the outlaws Tex Sealy and Verne Keller. The route they chose took them through the Lost Hope Desert, and one night they camped at the only watering hole at the entire Lost Hope territory.
