The cowboy reined up on top of the ridge. He could see the dust from the stage coach about two miles up the trail, and directly below him just before the bend, he could see three men. Their guns were drawn, and bandannas covered the lower half of their faces. Getting ahead of the men, he waited at the side of the trail, his arm raised to signal for the stage to stop. Offering to help the stage driver to fend off the outlaws ahead, the cowboy hitched his horse, and shot at the outlaws as they careened around the corner at breakneck speed. He aimed to get himself acquainted with the female passenger who was from the Circle L ranch.
