Artist Johnny Henley has been away in the desert and when he gets back he accuses his friend Andy McAndrew of sleeping with his wife and tells him that he can’t have the masterpiece that he has been painting. A fight ensues and Johnny goes home and falls asleep in a drunken stupor. He wakes at three in the morning with a thick head and takes a drink of water but it is poisoned and he dies. When the police discover him they think that he has committed suicide but Barton Drake thinks differently.
