Fred Chambers calls Barton Drake and offers him a check for $10,000 to prove him innocent of murdering his wife who he says had shot her self. The doctor believes that she hadn’t killed herself but had been murdered and Chambers is worried that to everyone, even Barton Drake it will look as if he had killed his wife who had been suffering from Leukaemia and confined to a bed for many months.
