By June 1857 one third of India was aflame with revolt as regiment after regiment mutineered against the British and in doing so committed unparalleled massacre. It wasn't a spontaneous uprising and in the early part of May a number of cities still remained uneasily peaceful though neighboring communities were in the midst of grim fighting. On the 11th May 1857 in Dehli, capital city of the great Mogul Emperor Bahadur Shah this aged monarch was being harassed by his two sons.
