Lunch was over now. Brett, Jessie and Lily had moved away from the table and were now comfortably settled in easy chairs near the window which overlooked the river. The casual observer would say that the party had been successful, but the host hadn't enjoyed in - although there was nothing in his attitude to indicate the state of his nerves.
