(06) D Day - The Conclusion

Broadcast:
Added: Nov 15 2013

Allied deception had continued to fool the Germans about where the D-Day invasion would take place. On the 6th June 1944 D Day Operation Dragoon went off as Eisenhower had planned it and by early September the allies in southern France had inked up with the forces from the invasion of Normandy. The liberation of France was near and Hit;er's Germany would be next.  The invasion of Normandy had worked despite the weather, despite the obstacles and despite the stubborn German defenders.

Includes recollections from General Omar Bradley, comments from historian and author Stephen ambrose, comments from Eisenhower biographer Kenneth S. Davis and reflections from actual CBS interviews with Dwight Eisenhower.
