For many a county of the old south west, the law came slowly. More often than not, the people of one small town constituted most of the county's population - hardly enough people to give a Sheriff's efforts the support of an effective public opinion. In such areas, the local bad men fought to keep the law from coming in. As our story opens, two men are just reigning in their horses at a prosperous looking ranch.
