Vincent Price

Vincent Price

It's coming up to that scary time of year again, and also the 23rd anniversary since we lost one of horror's most popular leading men, Vincent Price, on 25th October 1993.

Despite his lasting association with horror films, he started out as a character actor, making his film debut in 1938 with Service de Luxe - but he was soon to dip his toe into the horror genre in the 1939 Boris Karloff film, Tower of London.

As an old time radio enthusiast though, you will likely remember him the best as the Robin Hood inspired crime-fighter, Simon Templar in The Saint, which ran from 1947-51.

One of my favorite radio shows starring Vincent Price is from the series Escape, and is called Three Skeleton Key. It's a real edge-of-the-seat thriller about an island lighthouse besieged by an army of rats.

It has been voted in the top three on any 'What is your favorite horror?' polls we have run on RUSC in the past - so I think it's one of your favorites too!

If you want more spine-tingling listening, may I suggest you turn down the lights and have a listen to some of the new episodes of The Haunting Hour on RUSC.

The title of this series is a mystery itself, as despite the name, the shows only run for thirty minutes! You might also notice that at the end of the show, the cast and crew are never credited - so when the show ceased to exist, it seemed that it had just suddenly vanished without a trace...

I'll make sure to add some of these shows to the special Halloween RUSC radio station which is now live.

You can expect plenty of terrifying thrills and chills here - it really is a spooktacular collection of old time radio show horror, including tales of the occult, ghosts, ghouls and zombies.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
