The radio equivalent to chicken soup for the soul

Dr. Christian - Well what can I say but excellent!

A big thank you goes from me (and my wife) to the member that requested this wonderful show. It's the best thing I've listened to in ages. Don't get me wrong I love murder mystery and suspense shows but sometimes it's nice to relax a little and smile inside.

For anyone not familiar with this show it is set in the quiet little village of River's End. It follows the work of Dr Christian, the philanthropist hero of the story, who has a well-developed understanding of the human condition and human nature.

I remember the first time I heard this show. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and all my chores were out of the way. I plugged my trusty FM transmitter into the computer and tuned the radio into the appropriate signal. I queued up several Dr. Christians, made myself a coffee and put my feet up.

After a few minutes my wife, who is also an avid fan of old time radio, brought in a pile of ironing that needed doing. As I sat in my favorite chair enjoying the show my wife worked her way through the clothes in the basket. Ironically, the Dr. Christian show we were listening to (Tanzy Story) was about a mother whose family take her for granted. I felt so guilty I almost offered to take over! I say almost, but I did get up and make her a cup of coffee.

You see you can't help listen to Dr. Christian shows without taking something from them; either in relation to your own life or some friend or others. They should be prescribed to anyone who needs to put their life into perspective. Life is very different today than back in 1937 when Dr Christian was first broadcast, but in many ways human nature is very much the same.

Yes, and there I go again with the powers of advertising. Dr Christian was sponsored by Vaseline and in the show entitled Blind Boy we are told of a remedy for tired feet. Dr Christian having his humbling affect on me I urged my wife to abandon the ironing, sit down for a while and take the weight off her feet while I rub them with Vaseline. Well actually I mentioned I'd seen some in our bathroom cabinet and that she should try it!

I've been putting up a Dr Christian every Sunday since the beginning of August so you may have already listened to one of the shows I've mentioned. If you haven't then I can highly recommend them. They are the radio equivalent of chicken soup for the soul.

Happy listening my friends
