St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day

St. Patrick is the patron Saint of the Irish. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since. Today St Patrick's Day is widely celebrated in America by Irish and non-Irish alike so I thought I'd feature some old time radio shows appropriate for the day.

You can listen to Bill Stern Sports Newsreel from 17th March 1944. In reel four Stern profiles a song for St Patrick’s Day and the Notre Dame Football Team.

On 24th April 1960 Have Gun Will Travel featured an episode called Irish Luck in which Paladin tries to prove O’Banon isn’t a killer.

In 1937 Lux Radio Theater presented Peg O' My Heart a heart warming romantic drama with Marion Davies and J. Farrell MacDonald recreating the roles they played in the 1933 film version.

And last but certainly not least you can enjoy three minutes of stand-up comedy from Bob Hope relating to St Patrick's Day, the Irish and all things green.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
