St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick is the patron Saint of the Irish. He died on 17th March in AD 461 and that day has been commemorated as St Patrick's Day ever since.

Originally it was very much a localized event that was pretty much exclusively celebrated in Ireland, but today St Patrick's Day is widely celebrated in America and much of the rest of the world by Irish and non-Irish alike.

While many folks will be planning on drinking endless pints of Guinness, wearing a green wig, or sporting a lucky shamrock, on St Patrick's Day this year you can take it easy - celebrating on RUSC!

Choose from a terrific pick n' mix selection of shows from our St Patrick's Day page, which you can add to your playlist to download or listen online.

Sit back and relax with a non-stop selection of shows from the St Patrick's Day RUSC radio station.

We've also added a couple of new shows to RUSC today, which we thought you might enjoy.

The first is a story called This Pleasant Leave, and is the tender tale from a fine young, Irish novelist about her home country. It will be a poignant reminder for many, of happy days amidst hills and glens, the blue smoke curling up from the turf fires, a soft rain from the sea, and the lilting voices of people who are surely among the liveliest and most lovable in the world.

Or maybe you'd prefer the award winning story, The Three Wishes of Jamie McRuen, a fantasy from the novelist Charles O'Neal, about a young Irishman who heads out into the world to find his fortune, and along the way dreams of Una, the queen of the fairies, who grants him three wishes...

Happy listening my friends,
