Memorial Day - 30th May 2022
Monday the 30th May is Memorial Day and in honor of the day as a tribute to all our brave soldiers who have fought for peace and liberty we are recommending an episode of Columbia Workshop.
Private Throgg is a short play, written by Parker Fennelly - who also played the leading role - to commemorate Memorial Day and is a dramatized character study of Elias Throgg who fought in the Union Army.
It also includes a specially prepared program from Richmond Virginia with the story of the founding of the first Memorial Day and an interview with several honored veterans of the confederate ranks. It was originally aired on the 29th May 1939.
Decoration Day, as it was originally known, was first observed officially on May 30, 1868. A wonderful story of this historical day can be heard on RUSC in the Family Theater story entitled Unsung Hero.
To commemorate Memorial Day Joy and I put together a list of shows and will also add several appropriate shows over the next few days.
