Just Plain Bill

Just Plain Bill

Over the past two weeks you will have had chance to hear Bob and Ray in their portrayal of Just Fancy Bill which as you know is a parody of the long running serial Just Plain Bill. Well, I have managed to find two episodes of the real soap and will add them to RUSC this weekend.

Produced by the king and queen of soaps, Frank and Anne Hummert Just Plain Bill was one of the first successes of daytime radio. It first aired in September 1932 and ran for over two decades until September 1955. It is based around the life of Bill Davidson, barber of Hartville and is a tender real life story of people who might be your next-door neighbor, a story of people just like people we all know.

Unfortunately I do not know the broadcast dates of the two episodes that we have only that they are very exciting and totally unrelated. Be warned, don't get hooked as unless you can remember the story from all those years ago you are going to be left in suspense.

It's amazing that for a serial that ran for so long only nine episodes are believe to be extant. If you do have any further episodes that you would like to share please let me know at ned@rusc.com.

While delving back in to Bob & Ray Joy and I discovered many great clips on YouTube. We particularly enjoyed the interview with the President of the Slow Talkers of America but they all had us laughing out loud. Click on the link and see for yourself!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
