Happy Thanksgiving 2005

Happy Thanksgiving 2005

Happy Thanksgiving!

24th November 2005

You may remember last year at this time I added The Screaming Woman, which was written by Ray Bradbury and was first portrayed by Suspense for Thanksgiving in 1948 and starred Margaret O'Brien under the direction of Anton Leader.

Well this year I am adding the equally wonderful1955 version Of The Screaming Woman starring wonderful child actress Sherry Jackson in the lead role as 10-year-old Margaret Leary and John Dehner as her father. Here's a quick plot summary to whet your appetite:

Just before Thanksgiving dinner young Maggie gets sent on an errand to her auntie's house. To get there she takes a short cut through Mr Kelly's Lot, which is a place where she and her friends often play. Today, things look a little different. She goes to investigate and hears a screaming woman - seemingly buried alive.

Desperately Maggie hurries home to tell her parents but they do not believe her. They put it down to her over zealous imagination and say she's been reading too many comics.

Maggie doesn't know what to do but knows that she is the only one who can do something to help the screaming woman.

Here at RUSC you can also share your Thanksgiving with Amos & Andy in Kingfish's Turkey Trauma, go back to Thanksgiving week in the year 1849 in Crime Classics and learn about the origins of our national anthem  in a new series on RUSC Between The Bookends.

As you tuck in to your turkey today why not listen to the beautiful sounds of Eileen Barton and Bob Crosby on the Bob Crosby Show and take the time to think of the men of the US Army in Iraq and around the world who cannot be with their families. If you click on the following link you will be taken to a Thanksgiving Message to the Troops From the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff which Ned added to RUSC in 2003 but which is equally as relevant today.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
