Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you want to indulge in some classic old time radio shows after you've had your fill of turkey I've managed to dig out some real classics for the holiday period.

One, that I'm sure you are going to love, is The Screaming Woman, which was written by Ray Bradbury and was first portrayed by Suspense for Thanksgiving in 1948 under the direction of Anton Leader.

Here's a quick plot summary to whet your appetite.

Margaret O'Brien Stars in the lead role as 10-year-old Margaret Leary. Just before Thanksgiving dinner young Maggie gets sent on an errand to her auntie's house. To get there she takes a short cut through Mr Kelly's Lot, which is a place where she and her friends often play. Today, things look a little different. She goes to investigate and hears a screaming woman - seemingly buried alive.

Desperately Maggie hurries home to tell her parents but they do not believe her. They put it down to her over zealous imagination and say she's been reading too many comics.

Maggie doesn't know what to do but knows that she is the only one who can do something to help the screaming woman.

Margaret O'Brien is magnificent in her performance and at times I was sitting on the edge of my seat.

Without wanting to give away the ending I can tell you that in true old-time-radio fashion alls well that ends well, but this is apparently not the ending that Ray Bradbury had in his original story. His ending was apparently much more downbeat. If any of you have read the original story, I sure would like to know the true ending.

Coincidentally it was broadcast on 25th of November in 1948, so 56 years ago Thanksgiving must have fallen on the same date as this year.

As well as Suspense I have added The classic Jack Benny episode "Jack Dreams He Is A Turkey", A touching Family Theater story entitled "Home For Thanksgiving" and lots more comedy today, and over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, from Life Of Riley, The Aldrich Family, Our Miss Brooks, Burns & Allen and the Hardy Family.

I hope that you get a chance to stop by at RUSC over the Thanksgiving period.

And so, on behalf of myself and my wonderful wife Joy I'd like to wish you, and your family, a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday.
