Happy New Year 2009!

Happy New Year 2009!

We don't usually add shows on Wednesdays but as it is New Year's Eve and we have been asked for some football broadcasts I have added the 1961 NFL championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants, which was played on New Year's Eve 1961.

Prior to 1970 the NFL regular season usually ended in mid-December, with the NFL Championship Game being held on the Sunday two weeks later

The 1961 National Football League Championship was the 29th title game and was played for the first time at New City Stadium in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Sunday December 31, 1961 to a crowd of 39,029. It was a cloudy overcast day with the temperature at about 19 degrees.

Commentating from City Stadium in Green Bay Wisconsin are Jim Lanning and Ray Scott who along with the play present lots of interesting facts and figures on both teams.

The winning players each received $5300 and the runner ups $3300. The last time the Packers and the Giants met in the championship was in New York in 1944 with the Packers winning by a 14 – 7 score.

If you don't remember the final score and want to relive it don't look at the description in part 6 until you have listened. I will tell you though that Paul Hornung, on leave from the Army, scored 19 points for the packers. You can read a full match review and see some photos by clicking on the link.
