Happy Halloween

If you were a member of RUSC last Halloween you may remember that I added the marvellous Suspense rendition of Donovan's Brain  starring Orson Welles as Dr. Patrick Cory in this edge-of-the-seat thriller based on the novel by Curt Siodmak.

This Halloween weekend I am adding the equally wonderful hour long version of Donovan's Brain, which was originally broadcast in 1948  four years after the original and starring John McIntire as Dr Patrick Cory who has been experimenting on keeping alive the brain of a dead monkey. A plane crashes nearby and on that plane is the ruthless millionaire William Donovan. Dr. Cory sees this as an ideal opportunity to put his skills to the test on a human brain.

Through telepathy, he succeeds in communicating with Donovan's brain but before long it starts to take over his whole mind. His wife and son both try to help, but with disastrous consequences.

Both Orson Welles' and John McIntyre's performance as Dr. Cory and the transition between the "normal" Dr. Cory and Dr. Cory possessed by Donovan's brain are masterful.

Well there are so many thrilling old-time-radio shows and over the Halloween weekend I will be adding a great selection including more of Joy's favorite The Whistler . You can hear a new show to RUSC The House Of Mystery and also more   Lights Out , Inner Sanctum and Beyond Midnight  and another great Suspense episode The Dunwich Horror starring Ronald Colman.

I will also be adding more stories of the strange and unusual that make up The Weird Circle . You will notice that I have added the broadcast dates and the names of the classic authors, which were provided to me by RUSC member David Wardell.

But don't worry it's not all dark and eerie over the weekend you will be able to tune in to a bit of Halloween fun with Henry in The Aldrich Family and the antics on Candid Microphone of Bella Lugosi as Dracula .  You can also hear Bela Lugosi on The Abbott and Costello Show . Bud and Lou’s most successful movie was Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein in which Bella Lugosi co-starred as Dracula and here they are all again in this episode!

Finally, thank you to Christie for creating this wonderfully appropriate Halloween banner for us. You guys are great!

Happy listening my friends,
