Father of the Year

Well it's nearly here, the one day of the year which the Father's of the nation can officially call their own. It's Father's Day!

This week on RUSC, you'll find a terrific collection of Father's Day shows. Click on the link below to select which you'd like to add to your Playlist:-

Father's Day Collection

There's one show in particular which has really made me chuckle! It's called Father of the Year, and it's from the series The Magnificent Montague. (live on Sunday)

Some of you may not have listened to any of the The Magnificent Montague series yet (you really should!), so I'll tell you a little bit about the series and main character Edwin Montague, played by Monty Woolley

As the former monarch of the Shakespearean stage, life remains a tragedy, and he dreams of a return to the stage where, in his estimation, he is the world's greatest living actor. However, he hasn't worked for a long time, and with the rapidly deteriorating financial situation, to make ends meet, his wife Lily has managed to secure him work as a radio actor, starring as Uncle Goodheart, the hero of an afternoon radio program.

Heaven forbid his former thespians at the Proscenium Club ever hear about this fall from grace though!

Edwin is probably the most un-fatherly father there could ever be, and there's generally nothing nice he has to say about children -  the 'dreadful little creatures' as he calls them..

In Father of the Year, Edwin's wife surprises him by offering to look after the daughter of a neighbor, Gwendolyn, for an entire week, and she's just a dream child to have around!

The entire comedy series is light, fun, and heart warming, and I'd recommend that you listen to a few of the shows if you haven't already.

Now, if you are still young enough to have your father and are wondering what to do for him to make him feel special on Father's Day then why not sit back and enjoy some shows from the golden age of radio together.

You could even purchase a gift subscription to RUSC by clicking here, to give three months, or even a whole years worth of good clean entertainment to your lovely Dad, or perhaps download some shows from RUSC on to a CD and pop it in with his card.

For all of the men who have brought up children or who have acted as a Father figure to someone in their lives be it step-father, favorite uncle, big brother or grandfather, I offer you my warmest regards. Hopefully I have covered every good man out there!

Whatever you choose to do this weekend, Joy and I hope you have a great time!

Happy listening my friends,
Ned Norris
