Exercise and old time radio

Exercise and old time radio

I'm not one for exercising. All that jumping around and sweating is something I'd prefer to leave for someone else to get on with. However, over the past few years I think I've had a few too many cream cakes and the result has not been pleasant. My once slim waist line has grown at a rate almost as fast as the national debt.

I'm not so fat that I have to fly cargo class, just a few pounds over what those good health people say is my ideal weight.

Rather than continue to outgrow my pants I thought it was time to do a little exercise so, for the first time in many years, I went down to the gym.

The first time I went I was too busy trying to figure out how to program all the high-tech exercise machines to worry about the background noise, but by the fifth visit I was well into the swing of things. It was around that time that the high-energy music that was played non-stop and rather loudly started to gnaw at my low-energy brain so I decided to take along my MP3 player and listen to some old radio shows when I did my next workout.

I've just arrived back from my last work out and I can highly recommend it. During my workout session I listened to a Life of Riley and a Stand By For Crime and the time just flew by. I'd always found working out to be a pretty boring way to pass the time, but with my imagination being entertained my muscles could get on with their own thing.

With the risk of sound like one of those cheesy infomercials on the Shopping Channel I can highly recommend it. I'm sure listening to old time radio shows will never catch on as the latest fitness craze, but for us lucky people who know just how entertaining and engrossing these wonderful shows can be it's a terrific aid. Just pick your favorite show, copy it onto an MP3 player (if you are lucky enough to have one of these wonderful devices) and get down to the gym or go for a jog or walk in the park.

So far I've lost five pounds so I'm very pleased with myself at the moment and the good news for all members of RUSC is that all this exercise I'm doing will now give me more chance to review new shows to get up on the site.

Happy listening my friends
