Destination Freedom

Destination Freedom - Patriotic Format

On this day 11th September 2011, 10 years on since a day we can never forget, if you listen to only one show let it be Destination Freedom - Patriotic Format

The episode expertly written by Bill Hodak was originally broadcast on 15th October 1950 and has a totally patriotic theme. You will hear the words of wisdom of great men across the centuries including Paul Revere, Voltaire, Plato, Diogenes, Governor Barclay, Benjamin Franklin, Tom Payne, a woman from the 1950’s and Abraham Lincoln as they are brought together in a discussion on human rights, liberty and freedom.

The episode concludes with a prayer of the human heart composed by the 18th century French writer Voltaire, who was called an agnostic, two centuries ago that might well have been written for the 20th century and indeed the present day.

Oh god of all creatures, of all worlds and of all ages,

thou hath not given us hearts so that we may hate one another and hands that we may slay one another.

Grant that the trifling differences in the clothes that which we cover our frail bodies,

in the inadequate tongues that we speak, in our absurd customs, in our imperfect laws, in our meaningless convictions,

grant that all these trifling distinctions which appear so vastly important to us and are so insignificant in thyne eyes,

grant that these differences may not become tokens of hatred and persecution.

Grant that men may learn to abominate and outlaw tyranny over souls as they abominate and outlaw robbery and violence.

Grant that we may not hate and tear one another in the midst of peace

but that we may employ our existence in a thousand tongues yet in one united feeling in praising thy goodness,

which has given us the brief moment, we call life.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
