A show I thoroughly enjoyed last night

I am away on vacation at the moment so am having to do all the site updates and my e-mail in an Internet cafe that I found on the first day. The wonders of modern technology never fail to amaze me.

I know I should take it easy whilst I am away, but as anyone who has been a member of RUSC for a while will probably have gathered RUSC is not a business, but a labor of love. It is easy to leave business concerns at home, but a lot harder to leave behind a labor of love, which is why I have been sat in this wonderful Internet cafe for several hours each day.

Another great thing about modern technology is that I can take away hundreds of shows to listen to all packed neatly on my MP3 player. I always make sure I have a good variety covering everything from comedy, which I like to listen to in the morning, through to spooky thrillers which I find are most enjoyable on a night time.

Yesterday the weather had been wonderful, but as night drew in so did a storm, complete with torrential rain, claps of thunder and some very entertaining lightning effects. All the ingredients required to really bring out the best in a sinister old radio show. I chose an episode of Lights Out. It was one I had reviewed on the site earlier in the year and planned to listen to again when I had more time. The title of the show is State Executioner and it was originally broadcast on 17 August 1943.

State Executioner is a psychological drama in which the principal part is taken not by the character himself but by his inner dialogue. To listen to it whilst the storm was roaring outside was absolutely wonderful and it really made it a memorable listening experience. Even without the special sound effects that only nature can provide it is still an excellent show and one I would recommend to anyone who likes tales of suspense.

Happy listening my friends
