A great piece of free software!

A great piece of free software!

You might remember a couple of years ago I managed to arrange a special offer on a wonderful piece of software called Audiograbber. The price at the time was $25, but the publisher kindly let us have them at just $15 each.

Well, the price has got even better still. Here's the message that Jackie posted on the Audiograbber web site.

"On February 9, 2004 Audiograbber will be released as freeware. When I sold my other cd-ripper AudioCatalyst to Xing I signed a contract which has not allowed me to release Audiograbber as freeware but on February 9, 2004 that contract expires. It has been a great journey and experience making Audiograbber and it has paid off well so now I feel it is time to give something back to the "Internet and MP3 community" so freeware it will be. I am also fed up with all the administrative work which I now hope it will be less of. I will continue developing Audiograbber and with less administrative work I can hopefully spend more time making new versions."

I've been a huge fan of Audiograbber for several years now and use it regularly myself. It is a very well written software package and it's wonderful news that it is now Freeware and can be used without having to register or hand over any hard earned dollars (or pounds, Euro or whatever else).

Here's a brief of Audiograbber taken from the Audiograbber web site:

"Audiograbber is a beautiful piece of software that grabs digital audio from cd's. It copies the audio digitally-not through the soundcard-which enables you to make perfect copies of the originals. It can even perform a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also automatically normalize the music, delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks, and send them to a variety or external MP3 encoders, such as Fraunhofers L3enc, or even use some MP3/WMA encoders internally for automatic creation of MP3's. Audiograbber can download and upload disc info from freedb, an Internet compact disc database. You can even record your vinyl LP's or cassette tapes with Audiograbber and make wav's or MP3's of them. There are a lot more functions in Audiograbber, but to put it simply: Audiograbber has the most features one can wish from such a program!"

Significant advantages:

  • A nice and easy understandable user interface.
  • A good helpfile with descriptions of all functions and settings.
  • The program is very flexible and configurable and still easy to understand.
  • It works with almost all CD-ROM drives that can read digital audio.

If you don't already have Audiograbber, or you'd like to download the latest version (currently 1.83) you can get it by clicking on the link below:

If you are not in the habit of ripping CDs on your computer, recording sound from the line-in on your sound card, or making recordings of things you hear on the Internet then Audiograbber will be of little use to you, but if you enjoy messing around with software then I can highly recommend installing this software. For the price it is absolutely unbeatable.

Happy listening my friends
