A Father's Day Treat

A Father's Day Treat

Did you know that the United States is one of just a handful of countries in the world that has an official day especially for children to honor their fathers?

This special day is on the third Sunday in June, which just so happens to be this weekend.

If you're lucky enough to still have a Dad that's alive and kicking now is the official time to give him a gift, take him to dinner or do something else to make him feel special. Of course, you can do such things at any time, but on Father's Day it's an absolute must.

We have been asked many times for old Boxing Broadcasts and have finally managed to get hold of a handful thanks to friend of RUSC David Bossenberger. So for all you Fathers and sports fans out there over the next few days I will be adding some boxing matches from days gone by beginning with the Joe Louis Vs Jack Sharkey from 1936.

Listening to some of these classic bouts from days-gone-by not only made me feel nostalgic, but it was also hugely interesting to hear just how much sports broadcasting has changed over the years.

The other great thing about listening to boxing matches rather than watching them on TV is that you don't have to endure the pained look on the boxer's faces or the blood. It all seems that little bit more civilized!

So, get yourself a cool beer, sit yourself down and travel back in time with the RUSC time machine to a time when boxing was more about sporting prowess and less about how much money was involved.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
