40 Years Since The Death Of Winston Churchill

40 Years Since The Death Of Winston Churchill

40 years ago on the 24th January 1965, Sir Winston Churchill died at the age of 90 after sufferring a stoke.

Churchill came into his own during World War II. He became prime minister in May 1940 and established close ties with American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Churchill’s ceaseless energy, unflinching determination to beat the enemy and an ability to make great speeches, inspired the entire nation and eventually helped win the war.

In April 1963, at the age of 88, he was made an Honorary Citizen of America by President John F. Kennedy who said, "We meet to honor a man whose honor requires no meeting -- for he is the most honored and honorable man to walk the stage of human history in the time in which we live" and went on to conclude, "By adding his name to our rolls, we mean to honor him -- but his acceptance honors us far more. For no statement or proclamation can enrich his name -- the name Sir Winston Churchill is already legend".
