In February 1924, the police department received a tip that the National Bank was going to be held up. Glenn E Bond, a police rookie, along with a senior officer were installed in the bank by the department, so that there would be someone on the inside, should the robbery occur - which it did. The robbers were armed, and immediately opened fire on the officers as soon as they identified themselves, and Policeman Bond was fatally wounded.
